Prime Time Polkas

Jerry Zagar
Bass Guitar

Jerry Zagar is the epitome of polka music in the Pittsburgh area. While he was growing up, Jerry’s parents always had polkas playing at home, so it was only natural for him to take an interest in this style of music. His mother played button box in the Myrtle Beach Button Box Club (named for the place they would vacation each year) and they were always struggling to find drummers. At age thirteen, Jerry decided to start taking drum lessons, and he quickly began playing with the group. On a whim, Jerry picked up a bass guitar when he was sixteen and the rest is history. Jerry Zagar was a natural on bass, and he has since become one of the most sought after musicians in the polka field. Although Jerry graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Management & Accounting, polka music seems to take up the majority of his time. Together with his wife Pam, Jerry co-hosts “Prime Time Polkas” which is one of the most popular ethnic radio shows in the United States. Broadcasting since 1997, the show has a legion of online followers through their web site: In fact, the couple first met in 1993 when Jerry was a sophomore in college and Pam was playing polkas on a daily radio show. In addition to broadcasting, Jerry Zagar works as a mortgage consultant, and he performs with numerous bands in western Pennsylvania.
